How will America celebrate Halloween in 2020?

Should Kids Go on “Trick or Treat” in 2020?

You are here: Home / Home & Garden / Should Kids Go on “Trick or Treat” in 2020?

It’s fascinating to scroll through my Pinterest feed, year after year, to see what people around the world wear, make and decorate with on Halloween. From scary costumes to carefully crafted baked sweets to cocktail drinks that look like they had been ladled into glasses straight from the witch’s cauldron. Such lovely colors. Such creativity. They all seem to scream FUN!!! — yes, in caps followed by three exclamation points.

What will Halloween be like in 2020?

It’s not likely that kids will be allowed by responsible parents to go on the usual trick or treat routine this year. But children whose parents believe that this year’s Halloween is, or should be, no different from Halloweens pre-2020 will most likely be going around the neighborhood in their scary costumes and knocking on doors for their candy fix. Will they get any?

I suppose that adults who share these kids’ parents’ beliefs will have a stash prepared for the little ones who will come knocking. Throw caution to the wind. After all, based on what we’ve seen so far, for a lot of people, the most important thing is to keep living the way we always have. The agression of humans, really, telling nature, “Hey, we’re the boss and we call the shots!”

Alternative ways to enjoy Halloween

People who understand that the usual Halloween celebration that centers on “trick or treat” might lead to dire consequences in 2020 will still find ways to enjoy the holiday. Consider the following:

  • You and your family can wear Halloween costumes all day in the house.
  • There’s nothing wrong with baking Halloween sweets and preparing treats for your family’s consumption.
  • Decorating the house and garden with ghouls is not banned.
  • Gorging on Halloween candies that can be bought online isn’t illegal either.

Is that how my family will spend Halloween 2020? Well, we don’t do the costume thing. We don’t do Halloween-themed food either.

Brain hemorrhage Halloween cocktail drink

To be honest, we suck at food decorating. The best we’ve ever come up with was a cocktail drink called brain hemorrhage. And that’s because it was so easy to make. Bailey’s Irish Cream, peach schnapps and Grenadine poured into glasses, and specific gravity will just take care of everything.

Plans for Halloween 2020

Are we making Halloween cocktail drinks this year? That’s a thought. Sourcing mixers and liqeuers is not that easy these days.

There’s one thing though that is never short on sources. Movies. We can watch scary movies non-stop. That means that we’ll have to cook meals a day or so ahead or prepare sandwich fillings that can just go between slices of bread. We’ll have to get plenty of popcorn too.

About Connie Veneracion

We eat fatty red meat (except our older daughter) and skin-on chicken. We love seafood including fat-lined salmon belly. Sounds unhealthy for 2020? Hmmm… My husband and I are in our 50s, and we are not on maintenance meds. Neither have we been diagnosed with any condition often associated with people our age. The secret to aging like wine? Our laid-back life... (more)
